Four soldiers stationed at Schofield Barracks in Wahiawa, Oahu (Honolulu County), Hawaii were able to walk out to Mokolii Island, best known as “Chinaman’s Hat”, during low tide yesterday at about 1pm. They decided to head back to Kuoloa Beach Park on the Windward side of Oahu during high tide and ran into trouble.

Though we are at risk of injury every day during our lifetime please take extra precautions when going on activities in the ocean or even hiking in our mountains. The channel between Mokolii Island (Chinaman’s Hat) and Kualoa has very strong currents during the rising tide the currents can easily tire the best of swimmer’s.
