There is something so extraordinary about the bond that mothers have with their children. When my children graduated from high school I told both of them...to spread their wings and grow. Mothers guide their children the best they know how to do but ultimately each and every child leaves that nest and has to find their own way in the world.
Sometimes, mothers get lucky and their children find their way home once in awhile.
I have been fortunate that my son got out of the US Navy and came home safely in 2006. My son's birthday is on March 19th...and that's the day the war broke out in Iraq. He was in the Persian Gulf already.
My daughter found her way home safely a few months after my son came home in 2006. She was in a personal war of her own and that war ended. Her new life began with her marriage in March to a wonderful young man.
They always want to know what I want for Mother's Day and this year I said ....to spend the day with all of you....which we did today. We ate breakfast, went around to the other side of the island, had shaved ice w/vanilla ice cream and ended up back on the North Shore to pick up Kahuku Sweet Corn.
I looked at my kids periodically while driving along...thinking of everything that a mother dreams of for her children. To grow and blossom into responsible young adults.
When we dropped them off my daughter said, "Wait Mom!" and ran in the house and came out with a token of her appreciation for me.....MOM. The Tinkerbell Fairy (I collect Fairies) sat on a stand and it said, "Let Your Dreams Blossom".
I thought to myself... I have allowed my children to chase their dreams and to blossom into who they are today.
I thought to myself.....my mom allowed me to do the same.
Happy Mothers Day to my mom, to all you moms, step moms, foster moms, hanai moms and single fathers who are moms.....any 'moms' out there that are deserving of the meaning of .....being a mom.

Sally, What a beautiful post. Our mother's are such special people and I've always allowed my children to fly on their own and just want them to be happy. You couldn't have asked for (or gotten) a nicer gift then the gift of time from your children. Happy mother's day!
Happy mothers day to all. If you have allowed your children to follow their own path and not allowed your dreams and wants for them to drag them down you have done a good job.
Happy Mom's Day to you Carole! I remember a couple stories you told....and you are a grand mom.
Russ: No kidding....I guess I wouldn't have been spending the day with them today lol.
Sally - Happy Mother's Day...almost. Hard to believe it's that time already. We are thrilled that one of our daughter's is down from LA (with her long-term guy) to celebrate tomorrow.
Jeff
A wonderful Mother's Day piece.

Jeff: Isn't it wonderful? When they're small they make you stuff from school....when they get older you dream of days like this! Have fun Jeff...Happy mom's day to kay!
Richard: Thanks Rich....have a good one....
Sally,
You always know how to say things so eloquently. I am facing my first daughter on her way toward her future and I am enjoying the moments I have with her and looking forward to her visions.
Katharine
I am glad that your dreams blossomed and that your children are living their dreams as well. It is quite a gift you have given them... and I love tinkderbell... all things are possible.
Happy Mothers Day KAT!! Good for you...you can only be there to support them....once they get to that age....Have a good day!
Joan: All my fairies have some kind of message....hopes and dreams for sure. Have a good Mother's Day Joan!
Sally, letting dreams blossom is such a great viewpoint that a Mom surely fosters. Children owe so much to their mothers. Happy Mothers Day!
I'd also like to share the words to the card my daughter gave me:
From Your Daughter with Thanks and Love
Have I mentioned lately how much I appreciate you Mom?
Have I mentioned lately how your support makes my day to-day life easier or how it's such a relief knowing I can call you whenever I'm feeling frazzled, worried or in the mood to talk?
Have I mentioned lately how much I appreciate your encouragement or thanked you for the way any one of your countless compliments have reassured me and made me smile?
Have I mentioned lately how much your love means to me and how glad I am to have a mom like you on my side and in my heart?
i hope you always know how much you're appreciated and loved, MOM
Happy Mother's Day.
Love DoriAnne.
I cried. :)
Gary....my children don't owe me anything....I just dream of blossoming happiness for both of them :)
Happy Mothers Day Sally. A great post to commemorate Mother's Day. I went to an Arts and Crafts fair today and then checked out some local REO's for a potential client but it wasn't what they were looking for.
Hope you have a wonderful and special day tomorrow with your Mom and family.
Hugs,
William
Thank you William! I am enjoying what time I can get with all kids together...next week is their finals.....back to work for gary and I..... Mom is on her tour to see my half brother.....and tomorrow our new stove is coming. Happy Mothers Day Sally-It is so nice when you get to share the day with your kids. <SMILE>
Sally: What a lovely story you have shared with us. Your day of sharing with your son and daughter sounds so special. I am so glad for you. Take care... and have a great Sunday Mother's Day. Gentle Huggs...
I remember watching Walt Disney on TV many years ago. I of course remember Tinker Bell. And... I remember the song... When You Wish Upon A Star. Just thinking about the words to the song just brings tears to my eyes. Thanks again for sharing...
Happy Mothers day Sally. I love that photo! Do I say that every time I comment on your blog? I can't help it, you take such gorgeous photos.
We are so blessed to raise our children and to watch them spread their wings. I just love it. Maybe that is why I had so many LOL!!
So my daughter is graduating in a week, and I am a bit nervous as to what will happen with my wife as my daughter and my wife are best friends. It will be an interesting transition.........
Happy Mothers Day. It's so nice to celebrate this mothers day with my 10month old daughter.

Awesome post and thanks for the Mothers Day greetings. One of our biggest jobs as a mom is to allow our kids to follow their dreams. Have a great day, and what is Shadow getting his mom for Mothers Day.
Sally, Happy Mothers Day to you and to all the "moms" here. Your day sounded wonderful, and Tinkerbell is a beauty! Thank you.
Excellent post, Sally. Have a blessed Mother's Day. Sounds like you already have!
"Sometimes, mothers get lucky and their children find their way home once in awhile."
Sally, I followed the saga in your blog and always thought that your love and understanding would overcome adversity. You home is truly a HOME, best to you and your family this Mothers Day!
Happy Mother Day Sally. I hope you enjoy your day in the spotlight!
Sally - what a wonderful post, and I love the title and the Tinkerbell Fairy. Sounds like you have wonderful kids! Happy Mother's Day.
Sally - (My Wii character is MommySal) Love your post about letting your kids blossom into who they will be. And sometimes the rocky road straightens out and lives the lessons learned. I'm so happy for you that you have the relationships you do with your son and daughter, and that you could spend the day with them.
Happy Mothers day and keep counting those blessings. Have a great week.
"I thought to myself... I have allowed my children to chase their dreams and to blossom into who they are today" - Sally, letting go is not an easy thing to do, but the greatest gift that we can give our children. I have eight of them, and six of them are married and out on their own with kids of their own. Getting together with them, enjoying them and watching them enjoy each other is the greatest gift that they can give me and each other. I too feel blessed that they truly enjoy their time together.
Happy Mother's day to you and to all the mother's out there.
Very nice post on Monther's Day. Enjoy the day.

Hi Sally, What a beautiful post! Happy Mother's Day to you.. Have a wonderful day
Happy Mother's Day Sally......glad you got to spend time with your family. I did too, it was a really nice day!
Sally, Beautiful words you have written! "Let your dreams blossom". I think as a parent, it is so hard to let go and watch them fly out of the nest. I'm so happy that your children are back with you (in a sense) and their lives are thriving.
I love the fairy that your daughter got you! I woke up to a poster board full of wonderful sayings, photos, etc., that my 15 year old daughter made me. I'll treasure that forever. We are lucky Moms, aren't we?
Happy Mothers Day!
Sally that was beautiful. My kids gave me a clean house! While I was out this morning they cleaned everything! I was so happy. Thanks for sharing your day with us.
Happy Mother's Day! Nice blog, congratulations on the feature. I was in the Navy too!
Sally my two boys and daughter in-law also spent the day with us today, and I know that was also the best gift that they could have given my wife. Happy Mother's Day Sally :)
sharon: Oh...don't I know :)
Karen: Thanks for the gentle hugs...sounds pretty caring and emotional :)
Karen again: Randy (Prothero) gave me a tinkerbell pillow for my last b'day. It's in my toybox...lol.
Katerina: thanks...yes you do....I just needed two...hopefully I'll have a couple grandchildren one day :)
Tim: Just hold your wife...no need to say anything....as it will be VERY emotional!
Nixon: WooHoo! Happy Mom's Day to the mommy!
Missy: Hey Missy...allowing is hard sometimes...(don't I know that) Shadow is the one that gets the leftover steak :) she like cakes too and Gary made a cake :)
Andrea: Thanks much! I'm (still) having a nice day.
Gary: Thanks ...I am!
Russell: I love my home...my family....and all that comes with this grand life!
Thanks Bill!
Sharon: Thanks...you too!
Sally: Me too...it really is the wonderful gifts...the simple gifts...that mean so much.
:-), I can visualize this taking place and the excitement of making that call.
Tinkerbell! My daddy still calls me that =) That's why I had her tattooed on my back... even though daddy doesn't approve of the tattoo... hmm. lol But, ummm, Tinkerbell is a pixie. She sprinkles pixie dust on Peter Pan and Wendy (and others) to help them fly. OK. I'll go back to my corner now. Didn't mean to rain on your parade blog.
HELLO SALLY! Yum - the shaved ice w/vanilla ice cream - it sounds like a perfect Mother's Day in a "pretty perfect" island! -- Gabrielle
Hello my friend.....your day sounds like so many others that I have read...just spending time together. That's what I did also, except instead of a nice Tinkerbell Fairy at the end of the day, I have a wonderfully painful sunburn :)
So glad you all had a wonderful day, and that the kids gave you the gift of time...as that truly is the best gift of all.
Sally, we also had a great day. We all spent it together and then went to my parents home for a couple hours. The day was nice all the way around. A belated Happy Mother's Day.
