Cooked by the Sun! Sharks Cove on the North Shore

crab

The crab in the picture had a little too much sun and got cooked right there on the rock!

Sharks Cove is a giant reef located on the North Shore of the island of Oahu and a great place for snorkeling & scuba diving. The crystal clear water depicts the awesome views of marine life in their natural environment that you are bound to see under the surface of the ocean.

With Spring already here and Summer approaching, this is the best time to snorkel as the waters are calm. (unlike during the winter when the waves go up and over the rocks) At the end of the reef the ocean drops off to about 25 feet.

Tip:  Wear shoes!  The rock and coral formations are definitley hard on the tootsies! Watch out for the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles (endangered species) and White Tipped Reef Sharks.

Picture above was taken in November of 2007 at Sharks Cove. (Kathy McGraw came to visit :) What a difference between Winter Swells and Spring Calm waters :)

Did you eat the crab?

I was thinking exactly what Rich said - the crab thing made me tummy rumble.

Sis - I was watching a Showtime special this evening for a MMA Group who held the event in your area.  The stunning beauty of the area was enthralling, as always.  While I just ate and the crab wasn't on my mind, come to think of it... you give me soft shell and some garlic and you've got yourself a happy camper:)

The white tips sharks are fun to watch.  I have never heard of anyone being bitten by one.

Sally, I'm not sure I would want to snorkel in a place called Shark's Cove but it sure is beautiful!

Posted by Barb Szabo E-pro Realtor Cleveland Ohio Homes (RE/MAX Trinity) about 3 years ago

Yes to a walk on the beach with protective shoes, yes to avoiding bothering those turtles, No to those sharks bothering me, and I think the crab might be overdone so no to that too!  Great shots as usual Thanks for sharing more of your paradise with us.

Sally, Please wish your daughter a wonderful birthday!  I'm sure it was and hope she has a full year of blessings to follow it.  Your pictures are stunning....especially the difference in the peacefulness--are you SURE the water wasn't acting up because Kathy was there?  :)

Hi Sally...We would swim in a place called Shark's Cove when we lived in Somalia.  There were sharks there right off the coast.  However, it was much safer than swimming near the port in Mogadishu where garbage was thrown out into the ocean and sharks had feeding frenzies.  Many local Somalies were attacked while we lived there.

Happy Birthday to your daughter.  I am so glad for the two of you that she is there close to you.
