My daughter Dori attends the University of Hawaii West Oahu Campus for a couple of classes. At present the West Oahu Campus is located in separate 29 portable classrooms on the Leeward Community College Campus. Hopefully, the West Oahu Campus will come to life for all who have planned so hard for the Kapolei (Second City) Makai and Mauka Campuses on Oahu.
Councilmember Charles Djou represents the 4th Council District (Waikiki to Hawaii Kai). His father was born in Shanghai, China and raised in Hong Kong and his mother was raised in Bangkok, Thailand. Charles was raised here in Hawaii. Read more on how he got the name DJOU ....HERE. You can read about his many ACHIEVEMENTS and read his RESUME and quite frankly I say that all of his accomplishments, achievements and his resume are quite impressive.
Usually, I don't get into talking politics although at times I do express my views when someone has made an impact on me in some way.
Generally speaking, my views about Politics in Hawaii were with the mindset that the ‘good old boys' ran every department there is in Honolulu County. And who can fight City Hall if there are just the ‘good old boys' representing our districts?
Along came Charles Djou.
I didn't pay attention to much of our local political news until I started hearing Councilmember Djou speak about certain issues on the news. He stands up for what he believes is right and he darn sure spoke up when something was just not right. Now, that would be a matter of opinion when it comes to what's right and wrong although I started listening to this young man who spoke up with a mind of his own and did not chime in with the good ole boy syndrome regarding any issue at large.
I've listened and I've watched this young man grow in the Honolulu County City Council. I've watched and listened to this young man progress with his ideas and his love for Hawaii and the things that NEED to get done. Throughout his campaign running for Congress I'll hopefully see him win too. Watch Charles Djou's Video...running for Congress HERE
And what does this have to do with my daughter DoriAnne?
Dori has changed her mind about her majors for as long as she'd been going to college. She was so interested in Forensic Science (like the CSI shows) and started taking classes like Anthropology and Criminal Law and anything related. We were talking about one of her classes and she mentioned that her teacher is Charles Djou.
The whole conversation turned to Charles Djou and I told her how I felt about this young man. He stands up and speaks his mind is what I said. She said that he did the same teaching class and that she highly respected him for that too.
What's so ironic is that my daughter is a heck of a lot like........ Charles Djou.

Sounds like a great match and it's so important that the teacher-student relationship has great communication and the the fact that standing up and speaking out s respected. Now as far as your daughter having that attribute...I know where she got it! Have a great weekend!
what a special day .. your daughter is a seems great
Hi Sally - Sounds to me like you have a heck of a daughter, and that she has a heck of a teacher. They both have a heck of a champion in you too! Thanks for sharing.
Sally...
Wow, how cool to have your daughter instructed by someone that you admire and respect! That's really awesome!
Ok, how did you get him to stand there for the picture....are elections coming up LOL :)
Sally - I agree with Richard it is great that your daughter is being taught by someone you obviously have a lot of respect for. It sounds like he earned every bit of it.
Sally, Your daughter is lucky to find someone who stands up for what he believes in--and he's fortunate to have the same qualities in a student! Sounds like she's going to have a wonderful semester and he'll be one of those teachers that you never forget.
Sally sounds like the type of young man that the people of Hawaii need to support and make sure that he stays in office.
Sally, isn't it wonderful when teachers have such a positive impact on their students?
Maria: I bet if he knew my daughter longer he'd say the same for her :)
George: Oh, yes....that I will agree with. I won't talk about what issues turned my head to listen...but I will say it's what made an impact on me...and why I would vote for him for Congress!
Carole: Yeah....I bet he won't forget Dori.... now that her mom splashed him all over ActiveRain :) :)
Woo Hoo, While I can't speak about Djou ( though impressive credentials), I would say that Dori might like to get involved in his campaign and also look into spending a summer as a volunteer staff aid for him. He might even have a budget that would allow her to be employed for a summer between school sessions. Great for her resume.
William: She starts internship studying bones at Hickam AFB and next month going to Texas to visit in laws....hubbie leaves for Iraq.
Kathy: I didn't know before...she shared with me toward the end of the semester! Luckily I got her to ask him for pictures for this hehehehe.
Kathy: Uh...Congress he's running for...and I sent him this post too :)
Richard: It is nice to know that she had a really good teacher with wonderful ethics ...... I like this young man..
Thanks Susan: Yeah...we're all heck of a bunch of good people lol
Eric: Okay..thanks.
Russell: How'd you guess LOL! Yup, like mother, like daughter...although she wouldn't admit that :)
I usually don't get in to political debates either. I have a friend running for Governor Nikkie Haley and I am surprisingly active for her. She is a change needed.
Sis - I get into political debates all the time:) Shocking, I know. Charles sounds like a refreshing young man. It sounds to me like Dori is in good hands... all the way around.
Laura: It's the ones who are bringing fresh things into politics that I am interested in :)
LIL bro: Dori is doing great now...she is on her way with no 'obstacles' like in the past. :)
