The military based here on Schofield Barracks (which is about 5-10 monutes from our Mililani office) and Wheeler Army Air Base are constantly on our minds daily. The majority of our clients and our tenants for our office rentals are military. A lot of them deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan who have families here. Who have babies that have never seen their mom or dad yet. That we are in constant contact with every day.
A Black Hawk helicopter crashed in Iraq on Wednesday and we all were waiting word to hear if we knew any of them. Two of my clients that are still over there both fly on helicopters. I was hesitant to call the parents before I knew. I was afraid. I don't know what to say in times like this.
I called my current client's father last night and he said that his daughter flies the helicopter that escorts the Black Hawks. He already got a call from her. It was her "day off". We chatted for a few and he was very anxious for her to just come home already and he said every day is more stressful than the last.
I just read about all 10 Hawaii based soldiers who gave their lives for our country in this unfortunate incident and my heart surely goes out to the families. This war affects everyone regardless if it's the soldier over in Iraq or Afghanistan or the families waiting for their loved ones to come home.
Or word that they aren't.
My soul is weary for the soldiers and their families. Mahalo for all your service for our country.

Jeff: Yes we do. I especially and thanks for responding.
Katerina: Thanks for your support as well.
Neal: Me too.
Sally,
Lovely post. This just breaks my heart, loosing lives like this. My condolences to the fine people in Hawaii for the loss. I have a friend and client right now who is in Iraq. I just talked to him last week.
Take care,
Our hearts and prayers go out to the community of Hawaii.

Sally - I know this anticipation all too well - both my son and my baby brother (same age as my son and raised by me) have served in Iraq and Afghanistan. There are not words anyone can say to lift the worry - but the pride I have for those that have served, are serving and will serve is beyond understanding too.
Sally, war is tough on everyone. I served during the Vietnam War and a lot of lives were lost in that one, but I know that I and those that served with me felt that we were serving our country. What we did not like was all the protest that were going on at the time, and felt used by those who claimed to be doing them on our behave. Support the troops and make them feel appreciated, that is the best way that we can help them
BB: I won't fly in one of those things unless I was getting saved for something. When I was 17 yrs. old (my goodness, can I remember back that far?) I was laying on the beach by the heliport in Waikiki and the news guy motioned for me to come flying with him....NOPE!) Wish I did..he was pretty famous. Captain Irwin. (okay...I'm back now)
