First of all, the Honu (pronounced ho new) is the endangered Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle and the Ilio Holo Ka Uaua (pronounced ee lee oh- ho-low-ee-ka- oo-ah-oo-ah) is the endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal .
On a bright sunny day, Honu Sally was basking in the sun on Laniakea Beach on the North Shore of Oahu. She came on the beach when she had had enough to eat from the deep blue Pacific Ocean and in need of resting. She didn't make the mistake of doing things too quickly and got enough rest before heading out again to exercise, eat seaweed and get her work done. Sally made sure to always get her needed rest so she could attend to her business and family. She had a balanced life.

On that same day, Ilio Holo Ka Uaua George was out in the gorgeous cool blue Pacific Ocean and came up for air and to see what was going on. He looked towards the beach and saw Sally basking in the sun. He taunted and teased her and told her she didn't need all that sleep and to come play with him. She ignored him and he finally gave up and went to find some spiny lobster, crab and octopus to dine on. George hadn't slept in a few days and he kept going and going and not giving himself the rest he needed. He was a go getter and didn't even take time to spend with his family.
The next day George got off track and strayed into waters unknown. A tiger shark attacked him and he was a goner and out of business. His family didn't even miss him because he was never around. Sally continued on with her business, her life and tended to her family. She knew they would miss her if she didn't focus on all areas of her life that are important to her.
Both the Hawaiian Turtle and the Monk Seal are endangered species but both have different qualities. It's the ‘nature of the beast'. As Real Estate Professionals we all have different qualities and the way we run our businesses. No matter how we conduct our business there has to be balance in all we do to be successful.
Family, business, personal time.
Balance is key to success.

I like this post very much; gives your reader a good idea about your priorities. Hope you are having a lovely weekend...
thanks Virginia! When I got the flu earlier this week I stayed home...went back to the office for a couple days and had a small relapse...I needed rest...and slept 12 hrs. last night! Yup...gotta know our limits!
Such a nice and locally oriented comparison - the photos are great. I want to be like Sally.
Sally - Great analogy with some fantastic photos. Did you stop at Jamesons By The Sea for nourishment? Oh how I loved my trip to Hawaii. Hope I make it back there again someday. Be well!
Sis - Balance is the key, for sure.
I recall seeing up close and personal the Hawaiian Monk Seal just a few feet away when I was down visiting and on the beach. Pretty cool and it was so darn cute!
Every now and then we get something that forces us to slow down get back in balance. Great post, rest up and get well. Love Hawaii. Everyday I think about being there.
Sally - I enjoy your posts so very much. Me (this version of Sally) has been a George lately and is done for the day showing homes...and will take tomorrow off ! Gotta get my balance back.
A very clever post with a very important message. It can be a challenge to find balance in your life when one is in the real estate business.
Nice. Kinda hurts seeing that when we have a foot of snow in the front yard.
Celeste- a well deserved Feature... Congratulations. I love the photos and learning about these 2 beautiful creatures, and the message was just right!
Sally...
Interesting fable but I still feel sorry for poor George!
Hi Celeste,
I liked your story. Sad at the end, but engaging. I love to see the turtles and the seals when I come to HI. Thanks and have a great weekend!
Cheers from Lake Tahoe,
~Grace
Hi Sally -- So very true. My heart always aches to hear about endangered species. I try and hike most every day, play with my dogs, spent quality time with my son playing sports for at least a good hour, some adult time with my wife and harmony creates a solid foundation for a productive business life and also vice versa. Balance is definitely key.
Does Honu Sally go as far as Pu'Uiku Beach Park? That's where I swam with a very friendly green turtle not too long ago. Strange little beach, but my friend said that's where we'd see this turtle for sure.
Interesting analogy, I loved learning the hawaiian word for the state fish, aku aku anu anu something or other. I guess it means if I can't remember the name, it's been too long.
Sally- I love your story! You did an awesome job portraying the analogy. I really super enjoyed your story and glad this post was featured. Well deserved. Katerina
I love this story, Sally! I hope you are on the mend soon and back in full force. Thanks for pointing out the need for balance!
Your pictures are incredible! Thanks for making my day!
Pat...you got it...we are "FORCED". lol
Christine: Just have to (like pat said...force) force ourselves to slow down. I know that every time I overdo it something comes along and MAKES me go down.
Joan: It's a challenge just living...let alone finding real balance in our lives.
Steven: Awww.
Kathy: The message...balance :)
Richard: We'll be George's if we don't find that balance! :)
Aww, so cute. Hawiian words are so different. It's interesting, I was never into other languages when I was in highschool, but now I wish I paid more attention as I have friends now who speak Spanish and Portuguese.
Grace: Well, George made poor choices :(
Chris: Sure is...nice to hear you have made good choices to spend that quality time with family. When all is said and done...they're the ones that are there supporting us through everything.
Hella: Puuiki Beach Park is on the way to Mokuleia...Honu Sally travels all along the shores :)
Jane: Humuhumunukunukuapua'a (trigger fish with a snout like a pig :)
Katerina: Thanks much! We can finds all sort of creative ways to bring our local area to our readers :)
Melissa: Managed to keep it on a relaxing side today...thanks....on the mend!
Sally, I love your images! What fun it must be to find them!
kk
Hey Kristal! The first one is at Laniakea Beach on the North Shore...Every spring/summer they come on the beach to bask in the sun. They have a group Malama nu Honu who sit there during that time to hand out literature and keep people (tourists) from bothering them. The monk seal is at our Waikiki Aquarium.... We don't have to go far to find the 'subjects'. lol
Here's some photos for you all to enjoy!
HI Sally - What a great post and analogy. I really loved seeing the photos of Sally and George, too. Thanks for sharing this.
Very true, Sally. We get so consumed with work sometimes that we can't get off the wheel. I love these creatures and the pronunciation of the second one. I won't even attempt it.
Saly, I love your island and I drove nearly 500 miles on my rental jeep when we were there last year.. you live in paradise!
I regret not looking you up while I was there. . .:(
Sally, great way to stress the importance of balance before we become extinct.
Sally: I love the animal world for the same reason as it appears you do! They all have something to tell us, if we only watch them and pay attention to what they DO. I have had some of my most life altering experiences by observing and following their behavior---birds, squirrels, fish and on and on. ....Great post and so full of optimism for all of us! Thank you for sharing it.
Sally - wonderful photos! Nothing can compare with our brothers and sisters that live in the oceans of our planet!
Wow, great photos. Did you take those yourself? Very beautiful animals!
Great post....no truer words spoken...master lead generation and everything will take care of itself...
Beautiful photos! You are so right; family, business, and personal time need to be balanced to achieve happiness. You are lucky to live in Hawaii and enjoy the beauty of the islands every day.
Thank you all for the compliments...YES...they are mine and taken on the north shore of oahu and also at the Waikiki Aquarium.
Well said...........balance is the key to success, no matter what business we are in.
Lovely pictures......thanks for sharing.
Beautiful creatures, seen them many times on those same beaches. Thank you for sharing! Maybe see you at Ted's or Sharkey's some day!
Sarah: It sure is...
Peter: Come on down!
