The weather can be quite unpredictable in Hawaii. While watching our local news on Monday evening we were ‘informed' that there were storm conditions and there will be thunder, lightning and heavy rains. We waited and the next morning it was a beautiful day! That evening the weather man said that ‘just because the storm isn't happening in your neighborhood doesn't mean it isn't in other's. We all laughed.

By Wednesday I gave up looking for the storm. .....and then in a matter of a couple of hours it poured! There it was...right in front of me. There was lightening, booming thunder and a downpour of heavy rain that confirmed that our weatherman was indeed telling the truth. In the next neighborhood over there was....NOTHING! I called my office and sure enough there wasn't a drop of anything going on!
Over the course of my career in Real Estate I have been through phases of the housing market. It went up and then it down and then it continues to go all around. While our market continues to make adjustments we see sales numbers rise and fall. We see the prices remain stable in certain areas while in others there is clearly a continued downfall.
The market differs from neighborhood to neighborhood!
Like our complicated weather system here in Hawaii, our market differs from nationwide statistics as well. We never know what the next month will bring for home sale numbers or sales prices but we can be rest assured that if we weather the storm we will be ready for the next phase in real estate.
A never ending neighborhood to neighborhood surprise of sunny, rainy or windy weather.
We brace ourselves with an umbrella for the next turn of rainy events...
And rise as the sun does on those tropical trade wind days.

HI Celeste,
Storm in Hawaii, seems like snow in Victoria, " a rare event at best..... Off course, we woke up this morning with one foot of snow everywhere.
Thanks for sharing.
Hey Anna! I hope you watched the video....the darn guy had a raincoat on.....and mowing the grass!
Peter: Yikes!
Mowing in the rain -- that's just too much like work for me. Really enjoyed your pictures -- would love to revisit your area. Best.
Sally,
I've been thought those phases and then some!
Food salesmen never worry they just sell more hamburger. Until we start selling bottled air nothing is more necessary than food and shelter. As long as breading is so much fun people will still need more and more of the shelter you sell.

Sally--Good analogy...we had a huge snowstorm this past week that the forecast said would come late Sat...then early Sun...then midday. Weather alerts all over the place but we only had flurries. It started to really snow 5pm Sunday and we had almost a foot by the time it was over on Monday. And yes, real estate trends don't always happen in your area when they are affecting other parts of the country...but the economy does affect us all eventually. And like snowy, rainy or the beautiful warm winds of spring, we will experience many of the same ups and downs of the real estate market.
Sally, the market tends to behave like your weather here in Connecticut as well. Real Estate is local, and sometimes local means neighborhood to neighborhood.
George: It sure does!
Teri: Beautiful response Teri...loved your insight and walk along with me inspiration!
Thanks Bill...what insight! Procreation is one thing we have on our side :)
Thanks Tish...it is....different here.
Sally, I love to watch storms and find them exciting. Real estate is very much like the weather. It depends on which part of the neighborhood you are in.
Good analogy.

Hi Sally - I love the guy mowing in the rain! My daughter lives in west Texas, and she has that weather where there can be a downpour in one part of town while it is sunny in another, and then it reverses. She says, "If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes." We have had really cold rain all day here in Fair Oaks CA and are told that we might have snow overnight. Usually at our low elevation we get some only about every 10 years, but we had some 2 years ago, and now maybe again. Strange stuff.
Sally,
Beautiful photo; no matter the weather a good attitude is like sunshine.
Best,
Steve
Woo Hoo, As predicable as the weather :-). Around here , it is going to be cold and remain dull. It is not overly dark and cloudy, just dull. So tomorrow we are to have rain. I have the day assigned to do anything and everything except real estate ( at least past a couple of hours in the morning to activate a listing and add the photos). So a hiarcut , tanning salon, laundry, reading and whatever else I can fit in. Oh, I might write a blog , not sure, hehehe.
Sally
Interesting analogy, and it works!
Jeff
Sally... Jeff stole my thoughts.. but yes, good and interesting analogy. Just like storms, the real estate market can come and go.. and be so unpredictable at times.
Sally,
Good ole Southern California has long been predictible until now with our weather. We are even famous for it... until now. Tomorrow it is supposed to snow down to the 500 ft level.... which includes Los Angeles, Malibu, etc. It's really crazy to imagine! But like the changes in Real Estate, I can't wait to see what happens next!
Linda
Sally,
Glad to see you are "Weathering the Storm" I can remember growing up in Florida and seeing the rain coming in the form of a wall. It would miss one home and soak another, kind of like our regional markets.
Yeah that was some storm wasn't it! We had just over 2 inches of rain which isn't bad really. And what a great lightning show!
Hey Sally,
Great analogy, it's true. Much of todays market in what ever the profession is bracing for storm like conditions. It's rough but keep your spirits high and focus strong...and you'll make it through...hold on :)
