I Just Bet…. A Realtor® Can Answer Many of Your Questions

It's just my opinion (okay, maybe a bunch of others too) but isn't it natural that we believe that the ‘expert' in the field knows better than one not? I mean, we all say that we would not let a handyman perform open heart surgery on us, right?

What's an expert anyway?

  • An expert is one who has worked in a particular field for a length of time and gained knowledge and experience to be considered a reliable source.
  • An expert is considered to be  an avid thinker and recognized for their wisdom and sound judgment in their particular area of expertise.
  • An expert is a problem solver and goes above and beyond to get the right answer through a detailed process and KNOWS its solution. (An expert specialist?)
  • An expert is also a team player and if that's what it takes to get the job done they have the ability to work together as a team.

So, why do you keep asking your brother, sister, aunt, mom and next door neighbor for advice....

When you have many a Realtor® with experience and knowledge and who specializes in home sales....

Just waiting for your call??

It's not rocket science.

And you can even go further with that ... would you make an appointment to see a foot surgeon if you needed brain surgery? NO! You should look for experts in their field.

I agree wholeheartedly.  The Chief Cook is working a short sale.  The seller doesn't pay the commission but has been fighting her on EVERY SINGLE thing...after the purchase agreement.  I don't want this, I don't want that, time doesn't work for me, I have a family, etc.  Listen, you AREN'T PAYING for the expert advice to get you out with less damage to your credit, the bank is.

Sit back, listen and take some EXPERT advice for FREE.

Woo Hoo, Always a smart move to ask the expert. I couldn't agree more. :-)

Sally, I'm with William on this one.  I will be honest though it is mainly first time home buyers where I run in to the problems as everyone wants to help them.

Sally

When it comes to real estate it pays to have a professional represent you.

Good luck and success.

Everyone a buyer knows becomes an authority in the field all of sudden. Everyone has a "guy" who can get a better rate or is an investor. The real experts are the ones that are in the trenches day after day and know the market. Nice post.

Well I couldn't agree more. I suspect that many believe that a fellow homeowner, especially if it's a good friend or relative, will REALLY have the best scoop. But good friend or not, THEIR experience IS limited to their current home, or perhaps a few others, while agents have the experience and perspective of possibly hundreds.

Cousin Bill gets the credit, when due.

Realtor gets the blame, whenever.....

I always heard an expert was anyone 50 miles away from with a briefcase.

Then I decided it was anyone who could think beyond wi-fi.

Today it's a politician who can speak coherently with out a tell-a-prompter.

Sally, You hit the nail right on the head!  Talk to someone that actually knows the day to day workings of what ever area you're looking for an expert in.  I love it when reporters and economists are quoted as real estate experts in any given area!  I would bet that none of them have sold a home that they didn't have an ownership interest in!

It STILL amazes me after all these years in the business that a customer will call and ask for advice from their brother who is a plumber, or mechanic, or school teacher about selling their real estate.   I just dont get it!

Posted by Ralph Nudi (Weichert, Realtors® - Precision) 12 months ago

Hey Ralph!  I don't get it either but watcha gonna do?  :)

Tony/Darcy:  That's why we say ....local areas determine the market...not the whole darn nation lumped together.

Bill...no kidding...everyone's an expert these day huh?

Mike: Not always the case though....I love being appreciated...the ones who don't ...well, they don't appreciate anything.

Jeff: You do add to the mix for sure Jeff. The not-so-much-expert does more harm than good sometimes

Jason: It sure is....and those are the least appreciated at times when it comes to Joe next door.

Yes it does Lou!

Marchel:  I've found that there are ones who think they are the expert themselves...won't listen to anything we say...so why the heck did they hire us?

Hey William! Of course it's a smart move :)

Ron...sounds like you've had your fill too huh?

Carla: Same goes for the ones that think I'm a loan officer, attorney etc....nope...got to go to an expert in those arenas too.

Sally, it really does make sense to call on an expert, but so many do ask the family for opinions, ask friends, then they muddy the waters.

Hi Sally, and also the parents who haven't bought a home in 20+ years seem to know the market better than we do. We are responsible for the buyers/sellers largest asset they will mostly likely ever have. Why should others mess with that?

Sally,

It is so strange to think that all those people out there will not think twice about buying or selling a home without help, but yet they will consult with friends and "experts" about buying a cell phone.

Sally, I agree with Marchel. EVERYONE advises first time buyers. Mom, dad, Aunts, Uncles, the next door neighbor and the checker at the grocery store...
