We ALL need to work. It is a NEEDED part of our lives so that we produce income to support ourselves and our families. Mothers tend the children and the home and most times have to work as well to support their growing families.
There comes a time when we need to rest, regroup and come back revived, rejuvenated and ready to pound pavement. I’m sorry to say that it took me MANY years to realize that a vacation was in order. I ‘thought’ that my clients, the office and my family could not do without me during a vacation time.
THAT’S what I get for that kind of thinking. I was burnt and I was unsettled. I needed the time to be with my grandson and my husband. I needed to get away and just enjoy myself ….ME TIME.
It took my grandson to get me off this island and take a break. I only experienced 3 weeks of his newborn life and they relocated to N.C. with my grandson in tow. There was no way that I wanted to let those ‘Baby Brayden’ years pass me by ….and I just HAD to hold him while he was still a baby.
With my transactions covered by Randy Prothero and with my son Michael babysitting my English Cocker, Shadow, we left for N.C. on Valentine’s Day and arrived there the next evening. My husband and I spent the best 9 days of our lives together visiting our grandson, daughter Dori and son in law Alejandro.
We even drove up to Washington, DC to see the Capitol (everyone but my husband had never been there), White House, Smithsonian and more. The next day we traveled to Pennsylvania to see Gary’s Grandma and Great Aunt Lo and then to Virginia to see the National Museum of the Marine Corp. We drove back to Jacksonville, NC and the only ActiveRainer I was able to meet was Carol Smith from Raleigh, NC who took the two hour drive to Jacksonville to meet me and my family.

We had a blast with our grandson, Dori and Alejandro…and it was well worth the LONG trip from Hawaii to North Carolina and back. With aches and pains and jet lag too…we were back at work last Monday after arriving safe and sound back in Honolulu on the 25th. (it takes a full day of travel there…and the same coming back).
We walked back into our home with a different outlook. It was a realization that BOTH of us were workaholics and that we needed to MAKE time for US. Our work lived without us. Our dog lived without us. My clients were well taken care of by a trusted agent. They all lived without us…for a few days.
We are making plans for our next vacation to one of the other islands next year….ALONE.
This just may be the start of something big.
Time for just ….US.
ARE YOU READY FOR A VACATION?

....and just before we left I had two listings in contract...another listing went up...and am signing another listing on Saturday. I also have a buyer (retired agent) ready to put in a contract! It goes without saying. If we are not physically, mentally and emotionally rested...we have no room for "GROWTH".
Sally, you deserve as much time as you need with your grandson. . you are an exemplary and proud grandma!
Sally,
Ahh darn it wish I had known you were here in NC. I would have driven over to say hello! Hopefully you got some well deserved rest and had a good time.
Hi Sally - We did our grandparent thing over Christmas, and it was awesome, but not really what we needed to recharge. In ten days we leave for 6 days in Mexico, lying on a beach, sipping pina coladas, and watching the pelicans glide over the waves - I'm pretty sure that's exactly what we need right now.
Sally - Quality "you time" is a MUST... DAILY!!! Whether it's turning your phone off at a certain hour, having a cup of coffee with your husband, or taking those dogs for a walk (all without your phone!), balance is key. Congrats on your grandson! He's a handsome little man!!
What a nice post, and your smile in the video says it all. Thanks for the reminder...
I'm glad your little Brayden was the catalyst for your long-overdue step back from business. Sounds like you have a great new plan for refreshing and renewing yourself.
One think about real estate, is that you have to schedule and take time off. There is very little free time in this business.
Celeste, vacations are good for your soul, and when you combine family and vacations... well, can life get any better?
My wife and son are off to Hershey PA next week, and have been looking forward to it for a while
Looks like you had an awesome time Sally. I love DC! Christa has some family there and I am looking forward to visiting again soon. I sure hope you get to have your daughter and grandson come visit soon (that would certainly be bittersweet)
Sally I was very happy to read this story of you getting off the island and visiting family back east and loved your slide show. Life is way too short not to travel around as it refreshes you. Recharges you which is very good.
Great post, Celeste. It's so important to take that "me" time and get a much needed break.
Sally,
Thank's for sharing!
Bill
What a beautiful slideshow Sally! He's getting so big and he's so cute!! Ok first of all you need to vacation more and maybe your grandson will force you to do so. Second, I gotta throw in that it warms my heart that you met up with a Rainer while on your trip. :) Glad you're back, we missed you hun!
Well done, Sally! Glad to see you have taken that important step....relax, life is too short and children and grand babies grow up way too fast!
Sally, First vacation together in 10 years! Oh my gosh ..you were definitely overdue. Great photos too. There is nothing like time away from work and precious time spent with family to rejuvenate our soul.
Sis - Sorry we missed you in NC. Hope you had a wonderful time, my dear.
Sally - Good for You! If we are exhausted and need a break, we should take one. And, you are so right about seeing our precious grandchildren:)
Aloha Sally,
So glad to hear you got away and especially for such a wonderful trip! The time you spent with your grandson can never be replaced! And isn't it amazing how things roll on without us back at the office right?
At one time (years ago) I felt the need myself, I sat down and wrote what I call my vacation letter to all my clients explaining I was doing something I always wanted to do someday. My letter was entited "My Somedays Are Here" and it explained who was taking care of business in my absence and I left the country for almost 3 week. Since then I never looked back in taking time off.
Woo Hoo, Welcome Home and I am so haappy you all had a great vacation. I loved all the photos and it was wonderful that you were able to get out and see the Capital as well. Brayden is growing up so fast and before long will be running all over. What a great looking little guy!
Sally,
It looks like you had a wonderful time and I'm so glad you took the time to get away and see your Grandson and Daughter and Son-in-law.
Such an adorable little guy! How old is he? I have a new little Grandson too....he is 7 months old.
Jo

Kathleen...shame on us!! no more though...we learned a valuable lesson!
Gary...lesson learned indeed!!!
Kerrie: Oh, thank you so much...it was grand!
thanks Bill!
Rich: Agreed!!!
Thanks Gary...I so deserved this...so did my hubby....we NOW know what we need to do to not get burned out on the routine :)
Bob....I would have loved to meet up with you and Christa....and of course my 'grandson' Kelan. One day....you can bet me...we WILL meet.
chris...I know the secret to a complete soul now....YAY!
Sally my friend this makes me so happy to hear you finally not only went on a vacation, but you finally made it over here! And to think, it took your grandson to get you here :) I learned to take those vacations, the clients really do understand. Did you go without your phone?
Loved the pictures and the Video...he is a real cutie and they grow so fast. By the time next Jan, Feb gets here he will be walking and talking, and then the real fun begins :)
Kathy: I know right? It was a very short time but that was quality time with the baby ....they grow up so quick! It was also quality time with Gary...our time away together sure gave us insight on taking time away.
What a beautiful family! Thanks for sharing the pics and glad you had a GREAT vacation!
Great looking family... Glad you made time to spend time together. You're right we all need some down time now and then. Come to think of it, Debbie and I are due a get away!
Vacation time with family is what heals the soul and keeps us doing what we do!
Sally
What a wonderful vacation you had, made even more special by time with your husband and visiting your daughter, son-in-law and grandson. Thanks for sharing your special times with us. What wonderful memories.
Jeff
Oh my gosh, I just had to come back and watch that slideshow and realized that I hadn't commented here!! I am so happy that you enjoyed your vacation--you SO needed it, Sally! I'm sure Randy manned the business just fine for you and hope that this shows you that you can easily do this again SOON. (And, that means coming through Charlotte to see Jason, Jen and me next time!!)
