Double Petite Filet Mignon (about two inches thick) with sauteed onions and mushrooms for the main course with lightly grilled quarter cut potatoes on the side. My wonderful mom treated the whole family to dinner for my 51st Birthday. (I got around to writing this over a week late :)
Okay, so 51 years old wasn't as exciting as the half a century mark last year but the dinner at Assagio's Ristorante Italiano in Mililani Town Hawaii was superb!
It's always an entertaining session when we go out with mom, my son and daughter. Hmmm...seems the kids always manage to get a meal off one of us LOL!
Assagio's Restaurant at the Town Center in Mililani has an interesting history:
- In 1979 Chinese Thomas Ky's family chose him as the person to go to America after struggling on the outskirts of Saigon.
- On a crammed boat of 200 people he traveled to Malaysia and then spent nine months in a camp.
- He was sent to a foster home in Statton Island, NY went to school and worked hard six days a week and fourteen hours a day to send money home to his family.
- He came to Hawaii in 1984 (six months before he was to graduate from high school) to live with a relative because he thought he would be more successful being closer to Asian traditions.
- Starting literally from scratch he became a successful owner of SEVEN Restaurants here on Oahu.
Assagio's in Mililani opened in 1994 and our family has enjoyed many a meal here. From Italian pasta dishes to linguini chicken anchovy olio to filet mignon Assagio's is fine dining at it's best. If your preference is a nice Ceasar salad it is prepared table side.
If you are ever in Mililani Town and want a relaxing atmosphere with quality food Assagio's Ristorante Italiano is definitely a mouth watering event!

OK A) Get outa here your 51? Secondly I am getting hungry just listening to your description. Of course I use to be a Chef/owner myself back in the day. I always considered that field to be more of a lifestyle then a career. I use to do a Kobe Beef Tenderloin Medallion Au Pouivre with a green peppercorn and tarragon brandy sauce over roasted garlic smashed new potatoes and grilled asparagus.
Oh yummy, I'm ready for a vacation and a trip to Hawaii and dinner @ Assagio's Ristorante Italiano sounds like just what the doctor ordered!
Sally,
I love Italian food. I have a few of my own recipes. I would love to go back to Italy.
Steve
I love the smell of garlic that comes out of Assagio's. It is hard to go to Town Center when I am hungry without wanting to go there.
Sally - I'm sitting here drinking my morning cup of coffee and while it's time for breakfast instead of dinner, I'd have no problem after reading your description eating that delicous double petit 2 inch filet mignon with sauteed mushrooms and onions in a heartbeat. Assagio's Ristorante Italiano sounds like my kind of restaurant.
Happy Belated Birthday Sally, the restaurant looks lovely and I can almost smell those onions grilling here . :)
Sorry, I missed saying Happy Birthday to you. Some Birthdays are more exciting than others, but it is always a blessing and fun to get together with family.
Congratulations on having this featured in the Posts to Localism Group, Sally! And a belated Happy Birthday.
I didn't know they had real Italian food in Hawaii...I guess the world has evolved more than I know:)
This looks like a really wonderful place to dine....Thinking of the food is making me hungry!
Happy Birthday Sally! (a week late) This is a big birthday month for my family...my grandaughter Molly turned 13, My daughter Michelle will turn 32, and today is my Mom's birthday....she is 80! Congratulations on your 51st....I am facing that one in a few months myself.
The restaurant sounds yummy, I love Italian. Hopefully I can try it out sometime soon!
Woo-Hoo: Love the history (success story) behind this restaurant! And you were even able to make me hungry and I don't eat meat...I could have pasta, though! I THINK you should go into photography; YOU'RE GOOD with that camera!
Yumm and a great success story to boot. The kids look happy. Have a great Wednesday Sally
Hi Sally,
What a nice story! I love hearing how someone who begins with absolutely nothing but courage succeeds like this!
Happy belated b-day and I also can't believe your 51...great genetics and environment. Nice to see you kids again too.
Sally, I love fine dining establishments like this, particularly with the linen table cloths. They are so upscale to me, and it makes for a tremendous time out for lunch or dinner. Plus I love Italian food anyway.
Sally the meal sounds delicious, except for the fungi, I don't eat fungus, not even on a great cut of meat.
The first argument I had with my wife was because she ordered pizza with mushrooms and they diced them up in small peaces, and I could not get them all off.
That was about 36 years ago and I stll remember that fungi on my food .......... LOL
Hi Sally,
I haven't been writing much this summer do to private reasons, but I am going to try to start again. I always admire those of you who keep in touch with each other and seem to make time for what matters.
Your description of this food makes me want to get on a plane and go to Hawaii! I hope to one day and I certainly will keep this in mind.
Oh Wow....sounds YUMMY! Happy Birthday, Sally!! GBU!

Lynda: Hey..you look good too...and the best thing is...we've met in person too! Anyway, I think I've aged in year...stressful in the beginning...and all worked out in the end :)
