Respect for Our Hawaiian Land

Hawaiian Garbage

Right down the street from the neighborhood of Waipio Gentry I was heartbroken to see the trash on the side of the road. Look at this! It looks like someone remodeled a bathroom and used the side of the road for a dump site.

We have a wonderful system for BULKY ITEM PICKUP on Oahu (Honolulu County) as well as other dump sites as well. This kind of behavior is really not right. It's just plain laziness at our environments' expense.

All areas of the island are on a no-call, regular monthly collection schedule for bulky item pickup. Collection schedules

Monthly pickup in your area is conducted over a 3-4 day period. All your items must be placed at the curb by 6:00 am on the first day only.

I hate to see people disrespecting the land, and our great country with their trash, Sally.    Great reminder to people of your 'bulk' trash days.

Sis - I hate to see things like this, in any area.  Respect for our land is a must, we reap what we sow.

Hi Sally, I can see why this would upset you and anyone else that seen this site.  I just can't believe how people think of abusing our highways and bi-ways.  This is one of those issues you would like to see them caught and picking up miles of other people debris.  Nice post Sally.

That stuff make me sick.  We live in such a wonderful place.

One more time...just goes to show some people have no respect for others or they wouldn't do this.  I agree with Randy...it just makes me sick that people only think of themselves.

Kathy: Wait until you see where I was going that day....this was before it and I had to look at it going and coming back :(

Randy: Yeah....so are you back yet?

Gary: Yeah...it would be nice to see whoever did this....picking up others stuff.

Lil Bro: Yeah...we do...and you should see our beautiful island Jason...and to see this is sickening.

Kara: Thanks...I'm sure everywhere has some kind of disposal area ...so why do people do this? Lazy!

I just don't understand people who think the world is their trash can!  I have tried to teach my kids from the beginning to respect our world, hopefully some of it sinks in.

Carol: Same with me...now my kids are adults and they are very aware. Thank goodness.

Aloha Sally,

We are very lucky to have the bulk and green pick up services that we do here on Oahu. It's surprising since it doesn't take that much effort to place the stuff in a local pick-up area, probably less time than it would take to coordinate dumping it under the cover of darkness without witness.

I think it's more ignorance and apathy than anything else. It could also be ilegals from a work site just doing what they do in their country of origin and dumping it anywhere with no oversite.

Peace,

So true Fred!

Kimo: No kidding! Sneaking around in the dark has got to be what this was...during the day there is a lot of people going by .... and during the day they can take it to the Waipahu or Wahiawa dump...what was the hardship in going a few miles?

Posted by Celeste "SALLY" Cheeseman, RA, CRS, HAWAII Real Estate & Relocations (Century 21 Liberty Homes) over 3 years ago

This stinks Sally.  These people have no respect and are totally selfish.  Only self centered people could possibly not care what they were doing when they dumped it.

Sally don't you just wish that you could catch someone doing that and be able to turn them in to the proper authorities???

Posted by George Souto NMLS# 65149 FHA, CHFA, VA Mortgages Connecticut over 3 years ago

Hi Sally,

It is so disheartening to see roadside dumping. There is no reason for such community disrespect. Violators, when caught, should be prosecuted to the extend of serving time during which they are detailed to roadside cleanup.

Posted by Harold (Hal) Place (A1 Connection Realty, Inc.) over 3 years ago

Paddy: Exactly. And who has to pay to haul it away...the rest of us taxpayers.

George: I would be taking license numbers down.

Hal: Yes it is...and there is no reason. Laziness is not a reason.

Sally - It's so sad when our landscape is trashed by such disrepectful people.  We must cherish the land on which we live instead of trashing it with such disregard.

Maybe it fell off a truck (maybe not).  That is terrible no matter what reason it's there.  I hate seeing trash by the road.  No excuse for it.

Shirley: hahahah..that was funny. Nope...I even drove into my complex yesterday and a moving truck was coming out...the kid on the passenger side threw his cup and fork right on our private street.

Posted by Celeste "SALLY" Cheeseman, RA, CRS, HAWAII Real Estate & Relocations (Century 21 Liberty Homes) over 3 years ago

Sally.... it's sad. It happens every where.... I have done things in my life... but even when I have a wrapper or some small piece of trash and there is no trash can around, I put it in my pocket.  The bigger items... just very sad.

Sally:  I could NOT figure out what that picture was when I clicked over to your post!  I just cannot believe how lazy people are and how they don't think about the impact that their actions on others--somebody is going to have to clean that up and somebody is going to have to PAY for them to pick it up!

Now that's a shame. Someone was just too lazy to take their trash to the dump, and too cheap to hire someone else to do it. I hate to see what will be left of this world in the future.

Hawaii is such a beautiful place that it's a shame people would abuse what they should be paying for. If moving to hawaii, one should have to take a course on how to clean up after ones self.

btw: celeste, i joined after contemplating it for seconds.
