With cameras and video in tow we headed down to Waikiki from Central Oahu to the Waikiki Aquarium. Long talked about for something fun to do we hopped in the car after talking about it last night. We did everything we needed to do early this morning so we could have a few hours of pleasure.
It was well worth the half an hour trip and after going from window to window at the Waikiki Aquarium's displays we came upon ......
NEMO! Okay, so we couldn't know for sure but it sure struck a chord when we saw this lovely little beauty.
After literally taking pictures and video of the whole aquarium and their wonderous creatures from the ocean we rushed outside in hopes that my most favorite creature of them all finally surfaced. The Hawaiian Monk Seal! Oh, and a show this one did give us! Posing from side to side and at times taunting and teasing us by turning around to have only the backside showing, this beautiful creature finally turned to gaze lazily at us so we could snap a few.
Hawaii is considered to be the "Endangered Species Capital of the World" with more than 317 plants and animal species that are endangered per sq. mile than anywhere else in the world. The most endangered mammal that is on the endangered species list is the HAWAIIAN MONK SEAL and every day there is something on our local news stations about these precious creatures. READ MORE HERE:

Sally, these pictures are fantastic! Love little Nemo! This place looks fun!
Sally, you work in such a gorgeous area--and you do the BEST job of presenting the beauty to all! I LOVE your photographs--especially NEMO!
This is wonderful, Sally. I love going to aquariums - this pics are terrific. Looks like a placed worth visiting on my next jaunt to Hawaii.
Jeff
Lizette: Thanks for popping by...loved the day...beautiful!
Debe: I love it! So much to do all year round :)
Jeff: Good...so when are you and Kay coming by again????
Sally, nice video plus now I know where Nemo lives. I love aquarium exhibits wherever you find them. The Wakiki one looks gorgeous.
Sally-That is way cool, and OH so beautiful. You live in a place most people only dream of getting to in their life. I'm one of them. Thank you so much for sharing one of my dream spots. :-)
Aaaww. Sally, you just made my day! The first two photos are beautiful. I love the colors. And the third one is just adorable. And those prices are so affordable. That looks like a perfect way to spend a day!
Sally.... I love the different types of colorful fish in a tank... I also love your picture of the seal... how cute and what a great shot. .. priceless....
Beautiful!
Someday I'll make it to Hawaii. Until then, I'll have to live vicariously through great photos like these.
Thanks for sharing!
I like fish...used to have many of them. We are going to sea world next week in Orlando and have gone to the aquariums before. Fish seem to have a good life with no pressure...just floating around waiting to get fed:)
I do love your photos, although I've never been much of an aquarium fan. I can promise you that any trip I ever take to Hawaii will be preceded by a review of all your amazing posts, so I know what to see and do there.
What a fantastic place! My wife and I married on the beach in Maui and hit many islands! We need a return trip!
your friend in Charlottesville!
Great pictures. My heart is in Hawaii now. I am sure my daughter' is also there.
I love the beautiful colors in these pictures! We used to have a saltwater tank with a bunch of little nemos and blue damsels, even a big yellow tang. We didn't have a seal though, he is very cute and I really enjoyed seeing him swim in your video.
Sally, those photos are awesome, I love aquariums and the monk is adorable, they are so fun to watch. I've seen them several times at the Atlanta Aquarium, love salt water fish too, they are beautiful. Good candy.
What great photos, looks like an awesome aquarium! We were able to see a monk seal last time we were in Kauai and hopefully we will some more neat sealife when we go back to Kauai next week...I can't wait!
What fun! I love going to aquariums!
Hi Sally,
Thanks for the post. We visited and really enjoyed when we were there a couple of years ago. Time for us to return!!
Hi WooHoo, I'm just stopping by to say howdy. HOWDY!!! I've been very very busy and have been abusing my AR friends. I have been thinking about you though.
I love your pictures.
The best things is that you can swim in the waters around our island and see many of the same things.
Woo Hoo, These photos and video are wonderful and you did a great job. I love aquariums as you might have guessed. I used to have quite a few at one time. I love the salt walter tropicals and the colors are so amazing. I also had fresh water tanks. I used to spend so many hours watching and studying these amazing creatures.
These photos are of journal quality Sally and I am really impressed.
Great pictures Sally. What a great place to spend an afternoon. We don't have one in Fairbanks but the SeaLife Center in Seward is just amazing. Great showcase!
Hi Sally,
I love the aquarium! You got some really great shots. I'm impressed with the rates,we recently took lil one to one local aquarium and it cost us a small fortune just to get in. :)
Sally: These are great, thank you for sharing. My son is on his honeymoon in Maui
Hi Sally, thanks for taking us to the zoo with you. You were able to get some great shots. I had no idea of the number of plants and animals on the endangered species list in Hawaii. Depending on how I act around home my wife says I could be on the list too! :-) Great post Sally.
Thank you all for stopping by to visit the aquarium and my seal.
Dental work ...out of commission the rest of the day....thanks.
Sis - As always, beautiful pics! I would imagine the aquarium over there is among the neatest in the entire world.
Thanks for sharing the beautiful pictures. I loved my vacation in Hawaii, It was too short and I did not visit the aquarium.
Oh Sally...You already live in Paradise but this is a side that Inever knew existed! Beautiful pictures and I always like your videos. (One of the first post's I ever saw of yours was your husband filming you while you were working on your computer and posting in Active rain!)
Hi Sally - more of your absolutely gorgeous pictures! You can the most amazing pictures, and I loved that video!
Ann
Sally, beautiful pictures. I didn't realize Hawaii was the Endangered Species Capital of the World. Something new I learned that I can tell my kids today, thank you.
Hi Sally...Love the colors of these wonderful examples of sea life. No wonder deep sea diving is so popular.
Sedentary folks like me really appreciate the pictures.
Thanks,
Kate
Beautiful pics of Hawaiian sea life! Wish I was there.
I think I saw this when you posted it last month. But this time I found it through a group, instead of my subscription list. So I figured I'd leave another comment while I'm here =)
The photos are all beautiful. I love the vivid colors. But I think "Nemo" and the seal were competing for the best shot ;)
Thank you all for sharing the Waikiki Aquarium with me. If you folks ever get out this way...it's a must see!
Sally, this post is inspirational for me. Thank you so much!
