We put ourselves OUT there on the internet to market ourselves, our properties, our services, our techniques and more. In Part I of Marketing Ourselves At What Cost? the discussion kept going in agreement with how we portray ourselves online as well as the Psychology of Cyberspace and how some puff themselves up all over the internet only to find out they aren't as real as we 'thought'. (that's what we get for thinking LOL)
In my own mind's eye I perceive what I read differently than the next person. (For obvious reasons of being human and accepting that we all think differently) Over the last couple of years I have learned to pick out or weed out the ones that 'appear' to be false information and continue to learn in hopes that I am not 'setting myself up' for unwanted solicitations and such. I am also hoping that others don't get hurt by the 'misleaders'.
Many of us use video to record our local area communities and listings and so forth to market ourselves for www.localism.com as well as other sites to show off our 'wares' and listings. It gives a real personal touch to hear client's testimonials and see the home first hand. Some great stuff if marketed properly.
I received an email a week or so ago when I posted my You Tube video of my dog Shadow and the Hand Blender. I had uploaded the video to YouTube which is fast and easy and you can get it in a blog real quick. Well, for something like doing a funny on my dog it wasn't so funny when it was brought to my attention to see the other 'shows' you could pick to view from other people up there. Nope, there were some nasty videos with dogs and not so nice comments.
Do I want to be associated with that junk?
NO.
I went back to www.wellcomemat.com and uploaded the same video and reposted that video back on ActiveRain asap. One thing about www.wellcomemat.com is that it is a professional site and they monitor the videos and approve them before allowing you to post them all over the place. They have worked out all the bugs and my video uploads quickly and they approve it quickly as well. I hope they continue to allow me to post my local area as well as just my fun videos because of it relates to ME. The person, the REAL (me) Agent :) and so on and so forth. Everything relates doesn't it? Oh...and it's free. For a free site they have gone above and beyond to keep it REAL and keep it professional. I like that.
Bottom line is that EVERYTHING we do on the internet to market ourselves comes at a cost.
And it's in our hands to find out.
The video below is a yellow fish that just hammed it up in front of my video at the Waikiki Aquarium.

Hey Sally, what were you doing, teasing the poor fellow? He certainly seemed excited to see you! I have to get up to speed on uploading videos, I'm way behind the curve. On another note, that fish, is it a wrasse? They look good, but not good eating.
Hey Mike! No kidding...he was such a video freak! I don't think these at the Waikiki were for eating lol.
On my way to C21 award thingy....maybe they have some good vendors and stuff....
See ya!
Sis - That yellow fish certainly seems to dance to the attention:) I was once told that whatever you do on the Internet can and will be found. No matter how politically incorrect I can be, that always weighs on the back on my mind. I've become more diplomatic in my old age:)
Hi Sally ! -- Thanks for the heads up to Wellcomemat.com ... I'm going to check it out as I like video usage too :o)
And yes, that little yellow fella in the video seems to be having a fun day !!!!
Cheers !
Sally - You are right. I must check out the welcomemat.com site. Thanks, Sally girl!
I am sure what ever we do online can and might come back to haunt us.
Sally it is soooooooooooo easy to get in hot water on the Internet. We have to be so careful about not only what we say or do, but what site we do it on. A good reputation is hard to build and so easy to destroy.
Your aquarium video is very relaxing Sally. You are right that we are always creating impressions out there.
Sally, It's a beautiful video--and I can see that fish smiling :) I'd never heard of the other site you mentioned and when I'm doing videos I will certainly check it out. I try to stay on professional sites as well although I am surprised anyone was critical on YouTube.
Lil Bro...I love my lil bro and you got more diplomatic with your ever loving Jenn complimenting your other side :)
Sheldon: Oh....that little yellow fish loved me taking video...pictures and the whole bit. We hung out there just for that yellow fish. Check out wellcomemat...it's pretty cool. :)
Thanks Gary Guy! lol!
JL: That's a fact...bottom line is I really get technical now....looking up and down and all around....I think I better put a disclaimer about how my post and videos don't necessarily mean I endorse others on the site lol.
George: No kidding...and heck if I want to be associated with that junk. Nope....I hope everyone watches out for each other for that matter. :)
Gary: "Impressions" is a nice way of putting it. :)
Carole: Love the new pic!!! It wasn't critical....you know how after you watch a video it gives you options of picking another to look at by a different 'author'. Well, who would have figured my shadow poochie being associated with 'acts' that were not so pleasant.
Woo Ho and very insightful and useful post and I hope we all pay attention and use the resource that was designed for us and doesn't allow the stuff you are referring to. I first discovered WellcomeMat on one of posts early last year and would only use that resource now. Glad you shared this.
William: I was impatient and just did YouTube when I wanted to get up the funny ones right away...I'm am reconsidering at this point to go back and redo all.
Sally - excellent point because there is really everything on the other site. I am going to check out welcomemat.com.
Sally - thanks for this information! I had never heard of the new site.
Sally - Your Outside Blog is spectacular !! I am spreading the link love and looking at all the blogs that "da man" Brad Andersohn is promoting. He helped me get mine up and going. Your photos and presentation are beautiful!
Sally...
Came by to "spread the love" to my AR friends! Awesome outside blog. Liz Carter, Katy TX
Sally, I have noticed that problem on You-tube. No filter for what can get side by side with a decent entry. WelcomeMat sounds like a terrific alternative. Thanks for sharing!
